Never before in Australia have extensive areas of pristine subtropical rainforest be reduced to ashes by fire. That is what has happened in and around Eungella National Park in the hinterland of the central Queensland coast in recent days. This not only imperils the Eungella Honeyeater in that part of the world; it means rainforest anywhere - and its birds and other wildlife - is no longer safe from wildfire.
