Hi everyone. I’m a bit lost with regards to the latest updates in eBird – in particular, what’s happened to the Variegated Fairy-Wren (VFW). I remember reading recently –not sure where – that the VFW Malurus lamberti would remain as the wren found roughly on the east side of the Great Dividing Range. A new species was created for Malurus race assimilis - named the Purple-backed Fairy-Wren (PBFW). This species basically covered the rest of the Aussie mainland. My updated eBird list now has all my wrens lumped under the PBFW name – even the birds I’ve reported here on Bribie Island and nearby. I now have none of my reports listed as VFW. Can anyone shed some light on this topic??
