Hello Jason,

You are certainly correct about your identification of this bird as a Little
Eagle. Long time since I resided in Melbourne, but I reckon one of them at
yarra bend park would be something rather special.

Dear List,

So, I am fairly certain I saw the Little Eagle in Yarra Bend Park:

Since I have never seen this species before, can anyone confirm this?
Seems to be the only kind of raptor with this patterning.

It was hovering high in the sky for a few minutes, and then flew away
somewhere.

Odd sighting for this area?

Jason
