Hi Birders,
Just a quick note to let people know that two spaces have become available on
the 2018 Desert Parrot Expedition, 23rd May to 5th June.
This world-first tour targets four of the most exciting parrot species in
Australian birding: Princess Parrot, Night Parrot, Naretha Bluebonnet and
Scarlet-chested Parrot. Further information about the plan and booking
information are available on my website at

This will be a 14 day expedition through the Western and Southern Deserts- some
of the outbackās most spectacular country. Accomodation will be scant, long
days driving on rough roads will be the norm. The birds we are seeking are
challenging but well worth the considerable effort involved. Needless to say
its not just about the parrots- three grasswren species (Sandhill, Dusky and
Thick-billed), up to four Quailthrush (Cinnamon, Copperbacked, Western and
possibly Nullarbor) and many more outback birds are likely to be encountered on
the way. Rainfall has been excellent throughout the region over the last year
so the timing is looking really good.
Naturally, given the high profile of the species, any tour targeting Night
Parrot will come under considerable scrutiny. We have a comprehensive strategy
in place to ensure that the welfare of the birds comes first and that all
relevant legislation is complied with. Anyone with any valid concerns not met
by reading the species account on the web link given above is encouraged to
contact me directly to discuss in the first instance.
Happy Birding Everyone!
