I can't help with why the birds are dying in there now but there are
various things one can use to give birds / frogs / lizards / mammals a
platform to get out of the pool.
you need
- some foam that floats to create a platform
- a way of docking it so the animals don't have to chase it around (bit of
rope attached to ladder?)
- bit of shade cloth that is attached to foam to give the animals a bit of
grip.
Maybe arts 'n crafts time?
