The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period
Monday, October 31, 2016 to Sunday, November 6, 2016:
Area: SA
Date: Friday, October 28, 2016
Location: Black Point, Y.P.
Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) (1) Just the one Godwit seen at the
sandspit area of Black Point on the evening high tide, but it was of interest
to me personally, being the first time I have seen this species there, & also I
was able to have a good view of this bird which was a juvenile, with a lot of
colour on the head & neck. It was not there the next day, & I hope that it
joined the rest of the flock which I presume it would have travelled with on
its southward migration.
Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis) (170) There was also present a flock of
these birds, sheltering from the strong wind among the seaweed near the water's
edge. They had arrived by October 4th, when I was interested to see that some
still had red necks & many were each roosting on one leg. In fact when
disturbed they hopped away on their one legs!
