Actually it is Falco subbuteo. Spelling of species name is always with lower
case. Beyond that correction, I have long wondered at the name, as Buteo is
the buzzard genus. Why should a small falcon be named as presumably small
(i.e. sub) buzzard type of falcon?

Thank you Nick, Alan, John & Dan on your help today finding the Eurasian
Hobby.Very much appreciated.

Ironically its Latin name is Falco Subbuteo. As some older birders might
remember there is a table top football game named after this bird. Subbuteo.
Another Hobby of mine.

Australia held its first Subbuteo Grand Prix 2 weeks ago which was won by an
Austrian.

And my son and I will play in the 2nd round of the West Australian league
tomorrow.
Maybe this bird turning up will be a sign i will win my first game in it.
