Hi there
I'm not sure how often you can post in one week on this forum but...I'm
travelling Australia at the moment and so, I'm passing through lots of great
birding areas..
I'm in Robe SA currently and have found a little birding paradise, oasis area.
People may already know about it but...I'm sitting at an area that is teaming
with life...yesterday and today....If you would like to know the location, live
in Robe/nearby or passing through...I'm happy to help out..:
So far in 1/2 hr I've seen:
5 Lathams Snipe (very close to me)/2 days in a row/vocal at times, even fighting
Little Egret
Caspian tern
Sharp-tailed Sandpipers
Common Greenshank (or Marsh Sandpiper...far away and can't quite tell without a
scope) seems whiter than usual on undersides and taller than Greenshank
Red-kneed Dotterels (lots)
Common Sandpiper
Red necked Stint
A crake (far away in the shadow and couldn't see which one it was
Black-fronted Dotterel
Australasian Shoveler
Grey Teal
Dusky Moorhen
Red capped plover
Australian Pelican
Silver gull
Chestnut teals
Masked Lapwing
Pacific black duck
Eurasian coot
Australian white ibis
(There is probably more Waders I can't decipher in non breeding plumage but,
without a Spotting scope, I'm not too good
At Robe Treatment plant, you can drive on a dirt road that runs along side the
pond and I saw through the fence with bino's:
Blue-billed duck (male) /on far bank
Pink-eared ducks (too many to count)
Hoary-headed grebes
Musk ducks
Chestnut teal
Grey teal
Hope this helps someone
The Lathams Snipe were a Lifer for me. To see so many, and observe different
behaviour was incredibly exciting..
