Amazon is currently selling the TASCAM DR-05 Portable Digital Recorder
for US$80 delivered to Australia (roughly A$105)

Others on the list will be more upto date with the latest gear for
recording bird calls, but I gather this recorder is used by at least a
few  serious recordists (with an external mic).

If you looking to take a step up from using your phone to record calls,
this looks good value to me, and maybe other can comment.

Obviously warranty issues may be problematic purchasing from the US -
but local stock is A$150+
