Hmmm....no doubt bigger owls do have formidable talons (even a humble Tawny Owl 
resulted in the great Eric Hosking losing an eye after a post-strike infection) 
and there are anecdotal records of attacks on the www.  However, even the www, 
source of many a myth presented as the truth, casts more than some doubt about 
this.  First, the story seems to be about a single human fatality, and second 
there is a likelihood that the individual may have had a heart attack from 
surprise rather than the owl actually killing the person directly.  Sources 
note that the individual was raiding the owl's nest, so probably deserved 
everything they got.
