I think the 'Tyto' type call sounds more like a Masked Owl than a Sooty.

Speaking of Tytos, a few years ago I visited Lone Pine in Brisbane and
was surprised to hear Koalas repeatedly giving calls which sounded
remarkably like Masked Owls! I think they were females which were being
harassed by males.
