Two beautiful females observed for several minutes 300m before saltworks Bajool Gate 1 (opposite power pole 31616) at 8.30am.

Plum-headed Finch (117), Ground Cuckoo-shrike (6), Scarlet Robin (1) and Cockatiel (2)
Pecheys Lagoon, Lower Tenthill
Plum heads in profusion feeding on roadside grass seed and bathing in Lagoon.One large mixed species flock had plum heads, double bars, Yellow-rumped thornbills, Grey fantails and a Scarlet Robin in the mix.2 groups of ground-cuckoo shrikes flew low overhead, calling.

Stubble Quail (1) and Great Crested Grebe (110)
Boyces Road, Lockyer Valley
A large plump quail, with white streaks on head perched on small bush in grassy paddock. Approximately 3 metres away, perched for 2 minutes.
A very large number of Crested grebes on Atkinsons Dam viewed from Boyces Road. Largest congregation we have ever seen!

Late jaegers and frigatebird on edge of shelf.
(Ed. note that Long-tailed Jaeger is a rare bird off Queensland and therefore this record is a report which should be submitted to the Birds Queensland rarities Committee for verification. Long-tailed Jaegers are rarely parasitic).

Plum-headed Finch, Freckled Duck
Old Ropeley Road, Lockyer Valley
At least 12 Plum-headed Finches, associating with Double-barred Finches. Many other species around Pechy’s Lagoon, including Whistling Kites on nest and a large number of Grey Fantails. Fifteen Freckled Ducks counted on the lagoon.

Lesser Crested Tern
Heron Island
One LCT with four Greater Cresteds in a group on the harbour at low tide. Another seen flying over while working along the north edge of Wistari Reef, slighter build and smaller size distinctive, again with GCT in vicinity for direct comparison. Potential Bridled Tern in distance around 4:30pm while on open water.

Sooty Owl
O'Reilly's Mountain Cafe, Lamington National Park, SEQld
Treated to 2 Sooties luxuriating around the cafe area calling and perching up in good positions allowing for scope views. Pics taken from a loading dock which some folks know is very handy indeed. There tends to be a fair bit of territorial activity around this time of year with regular calling in early winter, especially May.
