Paul, While not close to the Lakes Lumholtz Lodge would be a great place for a family. Margit is a wonderful cook, a top host and a wildlife carer. http://www.lumholtzlodge.com.au/ she has two tree-roos, a pademelon and a striped possum in care at the moment. Lots of wildlife in the yard. Chamber has been mentioned and there is the caravan park with cabins near Lake Eacham too.
