Phalaropes winter in reasonable numbers at least in the seas around Timor, Alor
and Flores, only 700-1,000 km off Darwin.
It would be interesting to know how common they are south of Timor, like around
Ashmore Reef (Rohan, Mike?)
Some records:
* around 30 off Roti in Dec;
* thousands off Flores during Aug-Oct;
*5,000-10,000 between Pantar and Alor in late April
* about 700, 5 km N of Dili - East Timor in Jan and another 100 or more on 30
km trip to Atauro;
* 10 birds about 200 m off Comoro estuary in Dili in Nov;
