I received this reminder about Bird a Day, and thought I'd share it with
Birding-Aus readers. It would be great to have a much bigger group of
Australian participants in 2014. This year, Alan Gillanders almost beat the
whole world, falling just short of a perfect year on December 19 (with 352
birds). John Kooistra recorded a different bird for 294 consecutive days,
and Stephen Murray, for 254 days. I was completely thrilled to get to early
July and 191 days/birds.
So - who is in for 2014? Details in the forward message below.

Since the New Year is upon us, why not try something different this coming
year. Bird A Day <http://birdaday.net/> offers a personal challenge that
will cause you to see and enjoy more birds in the new year than you might
if you don't participate. Bird A Day <http://birdaday.net/> challenges you
as you see how many days in a row you can see/hear a different bird
species. The Bird A Day <http://birdaday.net/> website helps you track your
effort and allows you to share how you are doing with others as they do the
Go to the website and register yourself. Then you can begin adding
observations. Once logged in you can enter some observations to see how it
works. On New Year's Day 2014 those test observations will be listed under
2013 and your new observations will be recorded in 2014 for everyone to
see. It's a friendly competition, mainly against yourself, since it would
almost be impossible to have similar circumstances to make the competition
even. So we all encourage one another and hope for the best.
If you have already participated in the past, your old Account information
is likely still good and active. Login with that...
Messaging and Photo Uploads were added in 2012. Past Observations and
Downloads were added in 2013, Groups and Custom Bird list are Coming Soon!
I'm still working on new features for the website, but I didn't want to
wait to invite you to join us this year. So that you will have a chance to
prepare to participate. More information is available on the website about
how the Bird A Day <http://birdaday.net/> listing works.
For those of you in the UK , Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe,
Asia and Africa if you sign up I'll make sure I create a custom bird list
for your area for your convenience. I'm already working on a few of new

So, you are invited to join us and I encouraged you to invite your birding
friend to participate with you this year.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Now It's back to coding changes to
the rest of the site before 2014 gets here.
