Crested Shrike-tit (Falcunculus frontatus) (1) female, another calling nearby

Location: Kangaroo Island

Painted Button-quail (Turnix varius) (1) female crossed South Coast Road 2 km E 
of Stunsail Boom River, SW Kangaroo Island, 21 Sept. 13-coastal mallee/brown 
stringybark association.

Hooded Plover (Thinornis rubricollis) (2) pair at nest with 3 x eggs,   Stokes 
Bay Beach, N coast of Kangaroo Island, 23 Sept. 13

Shy Heathwren (Hylacola cauta) (2) pair in coastal mallee at Vivonne Bay 
subdivision, Kangaroo Island, 20 Sept. 13

Southern Emu-wren (Stipiturus malachurus) (5) in stunted coastal mallee/dryland 
Tea-tree heath association, Vivonne Bay CP, Kangaroo Island, 20 Sept. 13

Little Wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera) (5) small influx of this species 
into flowering coastal mallee (E. rugosa) / flowering Dryland Tea-tree (Mel. 
lanceolata) association at Vivonne Bay subdivision, Kangaroo Island, Sept. 13. 
Normally associated with stringybark/cup gum/banksia assoc. growing on 
ironstone plateau.

Bassian Thrush (Zoothera lunulata) (3) one feeding in coastal mallee and 
Tea-tree, Vivonne Bay subdivision, Kangaroo Island, 15 July 13
2 feeding along grassy verge of Demole River, c 1 km upstream from mouth, 
heavily forested SA Blue Gum association, NW Kangaroo Island, 15 Sept.13

Black-tailed Native-hen (Gallinula ventralis) (20+) moderate influx onto KI 
wetlands-wettest, most flooded in recent memory-one pair with six newly hatched 
chicks at freshwater Kaiwarra Swamp, Seal Bay turn-off, Kangaroo Island, 18 
Sept.13

White-necked Heron (Ardea pacifica) (1) one in flooded pasture on farm just E 
of flooded Rush Lagoon, Macgillivray, Kangaroo Island, 28 Aug 13

Straw-necked Ibis (Threskiornis spinicollis) (37) one of largest flocks seen on 
KI; in close association on flooded green paddock, ca 8 km W of Kingscote, 
Kangaroo Island, 26 July 13. Recently commenced breeding on KI.

Brown Falcon (Falco berigora) (1) recently fledged juvenile, roadkilled, South 
Coast Road N of Murrays Lagoon, Kangaroo Island, 3 Aug 13. Early breeding 
record; few breeding records for KI. Species is increasing population and range 
on KI.

Location: Beacon 19 Goolwa

Fairy Tern (Sterna nereis) (1) Single adult bird was resting in the car park 
close to the boat ramp. Also in the same area were 15 Caspian and 10 Crested 
Tern.

Location: Pengilly Scrub, Molloy Road, Wasleys

Blue-winged Parrot (Neophema chrysostoma) (6) Several sightings of perched 
birds, which appeared to comprise 3 pairs.

White-browed Woodswallow (Artamus superciliosus) (12) Many active birds.

Masked Woodswallow (Artamus personatus) (6) Not as common as the White-browed.

Rufous Songlark (Cincloramphus mathewsi) (4) A number of singing birds observed.

Spotted Harrier (Circus assimilis) (2) Quartering fields to the east of the 
Scrub.
