Hi Nigel, nice to hear from you again. You certainly should have a bagful of
fond memories to carry forward into your future. May I wish you all the best in
your new endeavours, and maybe we'll catch up again sometime.
Tony.

Subject: [Birding-Aus] Goodbye Thanks and Amen
This posting is to let people know that I have “done a Tony Russell” and I hope
I am not straying too far from the main topic. I have been birding in
Australia for the past 38 years, in fact it was the birds of Australia which
kept me here after a short secondment from the UK. But after 38 years and some
760 species, I have decided to move on. I may well make the trip to Werribee
when the next rarity turns up, but you won’t find me on Christmas Island again!
Seeing the birds was one thing, but I will always remember the camaraderie
and the way in which everyone was willing to share their knowledge - I hope I
did the same. My interest in birds has not disappeared altogether, I have
developed an interest in photography and whilst I will never reach the dizzy
heights of others, it will provide me with a continued connection with
birdwatching. This note is to say an enormous thankyou to readers of
Birding-aus whom I have met on various trips, twitches and pelagics over that
period of time. My last twitch was for the Hoopoe in Broome a while back and
that seems a good way to go out. Anyone who wants to make me an offer for an
almost virgin (is there such a thing?) copy of the full set of HANZAB can
contact me offline. By the way, I thought I might use BJ’s final message on
M*A*S*H as a fitting end to a great aspect of my life – Goodbye Thanks and Amen.
