Hi Judith,
I have observed this behaviour in Spangled Drongos often and in 1985
published a short note about it in Australian Birds. I will email you a
copy of the note directly. I have also observed the Drongo associating with
Cicadabirds, White-bellied Cuckoo-shrikes and Barred Cuckoo-shrikes,
presumably also robbing them.

Deborah Metters and I were out at Oxley Common today (Brisbane South). A
tidy list of 60 species in a couple of hours.
The best bird was a Spotted Harrier flying over head. But the best thing we
saw though was a Spangled Drongo harrying a
Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike for food. We saw it do it twice. On both
occasions the BFCS flew over with a large pray item in it's bill. The
Drongo followed closely from below. It kept flying up under the BFCS
until, on both occasions, the BFCS dropped the pray which was caught by
the Drongo.
Fascinating! Has anyone else observed this species acting like a
Frigatebird before??? Certainly never observed by either of us!
