Hi,
I have been following this thread on birding-aus but have not had an 
opportunity to visit the area.
Perhaps the road sides provide canola and other seeds plus stones suitable for 
gizzard grinding. 
Canola seed must be widely available in crops and many roadsides but the 
concomitant presence of many stones suitable for ingestion may determine 
optimal feeding sites.
