Hi all,

Following a reported approx. 500 Freckled Ducks at the Berri basin
(wetland), yesterday evening Helga Kieskamp and myself went there and
counted at least 350 Freckled Ducks. There were many 100s of Grey Teal and
Pink-eared Ducks as well as smaller numbers of Hardhead, Australian
Shoveler, Australian Shelduck and a largish group of Red-necked Avocet. On
the far side of the wetland, which we tried to get to but couldn't, many
more densely packed ducks were roosting so an estimate of 500 Freckled Duck
would not be unreasonable. As I understand it this site is off-limits to
duck shooters.

Unfortunately the birds did not allow themselves to be approached for
decent photos but I took some photos anyway and posted them here:

cheers
Peter
