one mention at the shark bay turn-off.

Yes, you'd have to drive up from Perth, about twice as far as Geraldton. I
did it once while staying at Geraldton. There's fuel at the turn off to
Monkey Mia. Take sandwiches.

Highly unlikely an escape as this is a remote area and bird is very flighty.

BUT Carnarvon is difficult to get to by air and a very long way to drive!
