Just a quick note in response to many enquiries to let people know that
Abberton escaped relatively unscathed by the recent rains and associated
flooding.
At our place, the flooding was a lot less severe than in 2010, and I think a
significant factor could be that having lost some of our former creekbank two
years ago, the now much wider Lockyer Creek has significantly increased its
carrying capacity in front of our place, such that a
given volume of water can now be contained in a wider less high flow than
hitherto, as it comes
past us. After what was none-the-less a worrying day on Sunday, we received a
reward on Monday when a Wedge-tailed Shearwater appeared over the house, flew
directly over the verandah and down the creek - in the general direction of the
sea...... Bird #216 for the house list, and #212 from the verandah. Bill
