POLYNESIAN STORM-PETREL, New Zealand (type) Storm Petrel ++
Southport Pelagic, Queensland
1 stunning light phase Polynesian Storm-Petrel today! If accepted it will be the first record off the mainland.Photos to follow. Also a New Zealand type Storm-Petrel (photo attached) which needs looking at. In addition: 1 Streaked Shearwater, 1 Red-tailed Tropicbird (2nd Southport Record), 1 Gould's Petrel, 10+ Kermadec Petrels, 90+ Tahiti Petrels, 30-40 Great-winged (Grey-faced) Petrels, 1 Black Noddy, 1 Wilson's Storm-Petrel, 20+ Sooty Terns, 1 fregatta storm-petrel still to be checked from Photos, + usual common species although no jaegers and no Flesh-footed Shearwaters! Probable Heuglin's Gull
Broome waste facility, Western Australia
A large gull thought to be a probable Heuglin's Gull has been at the waste facility in Broome (nw WA) since at least Wednesday 16th Jan. It has been observed on each of the four days since then and appears quite settled. This is a potential new species for Australia; when the identification is fully resolved this post will be updated.

Plains Wanderer
Little River, Victoria
CFA Firefighter Simon Jolly saw a male plains wanderer walk out of a burnt area then retreat back into longer grass.
He is familiar with the species, his wife released the female that was in Melb Zoos care into this area some time back, he is sure of what he saw.
The area was between Bulban and Edgars Road.

Painted Honeyeater
Banyule Flats Reserve, Victoria
When searching for the Powerful Owl, I was amazed to hear, see and photograph a single bird calling loudly. It was found on the east side of the reserve just where the large powerlines cross over the track near the golf course. I crossed over 2 bridges from the main carpark on Somerset Dr.
