Nikolas,

That certainly is an improvement. When I was a kid, back in the middle of the 
last century, I used to frequent the pond regularly, catching gudgeons. There 
was little in the way of avian fauna to be seen then. Any ducks had a pretty 
short life expectancy. Bread and chloral hydrate made catching them pretty 
easy. Duck was a tasty treat in The Glebe, those days.
