Australian Hobby (Falco longipennis) (1) Australian Hobby Corner Swan Ave and 
Thames Ave Klemzig, sitting poplar tree with three magpies.

Location: Cheetham Saltfields, Price

Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) (4) 

Fairy Tern (Sterna nereis) (165) Estimate. May have been more. Occasional 
immature and youngster seen begging for food.

Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) (110) Estimate -may have been more. Some 
birds beginning to colour up.

Early morning visit with David Hartland and Daniel Mantle. High tide was short 
(1.3m) at 8.13am, accounting for relative decreased abundance and diversity of 

Several thousand Banded Stilts present, along with a single Gull-billed Tern, 
numerous Royal Spoonbill (33+), and large numbers of both Little Egret and 
Eastern Great Egret.

Banded Stilt (Cladorhynchus leucocephalus) (500) Brackish paperbark = Birchmore 
Lagoon on 26 Jan 12

Blue-billed Duck (Oxyura australis) (50) Brackish paperbark = Birchmore Lagoon 
on 26 Jan 12

Red-kneed Dotterel (Erythrogonys cinctus) (2) Brackish paperbark = Birchmore 
Lagoon on 26 Jan 12

Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (Calidris acuminata) (50) Brackish paperbark = Birchmore 
Lagoon on 26 Jan 12

Darter (Anhinga novaehollandiae) (3) Middle River estuary-rarely seen on KI.

Australian Spotted Crake (Porzana fluminea) (30) in mud and dense samphire at 
Busby Islet- Bay of Shoals-18 February 2012. Ventured from cover to feed along 
tidal channels at low tide. Widespread throughout most of islet.

Rock Parrot (Neophema petrophila) (50) feeding in samphire-most notably Suaeda 
australis and Sarcocornia. About 45 immature and 5 adults seen. Recent arrivals 
as post-breeding visitors from elsewhere. Generally not seen on KI from about 
June to December.

Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) (1000) concentrated on Bay of Shoals -gentle low 
energy seas surrounding Busby IsletCP - 9 Feb 2012

Great Egret (Casmerodius albus) (5) Duck Lagoon on the lower Cygnet River. 
Roosting in Red Gums with spoonbills and Ibis

Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) (1) American River on 26 January 
2012. Follows a spate of sightings of this sp. on KI over past months.

Location: Port Clinton, Yorke Peninsula

Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) (1) Seen on mudflats out from 
playground on esplanade.

Fairy Tern (Sterna nereis) (40) Seen in a group out on edge of falling tide.

Grey-tailed Tattler (Heteroscelus brevipes) (4) Four birds loosely feeding 
together on mudflats immediately adjacent to end of Wandilla Terrace.

Late morning visit with David Hartland. Rather unusual sight of a Brown Goshawk 
slowly gliding along length of mudflats.
