Tue 14 Feb Unknown small parrot or lorikeet Home residence, West Hobart
While eating my breakfast, an incredibly beautiful bird (small parrot or lorikeet?), with light blue plumage and black neck band and face markings landed on our deck railing. I took several photos and then tried to identify this bird from my bird book and via various websites - without success. This bird allowed me to get within a couple of metres when I was taking the photos, so I assume it is/was someone's pet. Is it an exotic species, imported from outside of Australia. It's height was approx 25 - 30cm, so much bigger than your average budgy and similar in size to the musk lorikeets that occasionally feed on fruit in our trees. [Ed. I believe it is a blue form/mutation of the Exotic Indian Ringneck (though happy to be corrected), often kept as Aviary specimens. Defninitely an ascapee]
