I guessed that they worked by displaying on an EVF because the blub mentioned
digital zoom. I don't see how digital zoom is possible any other way. I think
these "binoculars" are actually just a pair of linked digital cameras with
electronic viewfinders.
Given that normal binoculars give a much higher apparent resolution when used
with both eyes compared to one, I wonder if the same thing would apply to two
EVFs.
According to
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/818031-REG/Sony_DEV_3_DEV_3_Digital_Recording_Binoculars.html,
the EVF resolution is 852*480 (and therefore rectangular, not circular like
we're used to). That's just 408,960 pixels, although I suspect it's not pixels,
but "dots" that EVFs are usually specified in. Either way, it's nothing ground
breaking.
And the weight is 1kg, which is about 30% more than a typical 8x42 optical pair.
