Published sightings for the week ending 20 Nov 2011.

Fri 18 Nov Eurasian Hoopoe Roebuck Plains Roadhouse, Western Australia, Western Australia
The Eurasian Hoopoe was seen at the roadhouse this morning, 8-48 local time. The bird must be expanding its foraging activities in the area but hasn't taken the road house completely off its daily itinerary.

Tue 15 Nov Eurasian Hoopoe Roebuck Plains Roadhouse, Western Australia
…. After much nashing of teeth we took the plunge and headed off to Broome to twitch the Eurasian Hoopoe. The redeye from Melbourne to Perth followed by a two hour stop over at Perth before heading to Broome was tedious… followed by the baggage collection and car rental process before getting on our way to Roebuck Plains Roadhouse induced more anxiety. Then getting there and frantically searching (I leave that to your imagination) ……. However all was rewarded.. great views of the Eurasian Hoopoe and even managed a few photographs… The bird can be seen around the grassy area in front of the caravan park… patience is required (mind you.. running our quickly today!!). We will be in Broome until Sunday morning and will go out to see the bird again.

Freckled Duck (5), Australian Painted Snipe (4) Whites Road Wetlands, Bolivar, South Australia
Five Freckled Duck were present at the wetlands this morning, possibly as many as seven. Four Australian Painted Snipe were also observed, two within the western-most pond. Other good records were of more than 50 Australian Spotted Crake and at least 15 Baillon's Crake. [Editors note: Posted on behalf of Dan Mantle. A visit earlier the same morning unearthed 8 Painted Snipe. -M. Wood. ]

Sun 13 Nov Scarlet-chested Parrot Point Sunday Road, near Yeo Lake NR, Western Australia
Small numbers of Scarlet-chested Parrots feeding on Point Sunday Road in early morning/late afternoon, especially between 26km and 30km south of Great Central Road. 14 birds seen, including 2 males. Site is noteworthy to birders due to ease of access (even to 2WD vehicles), particularly considering difficulty getting to Neale Junction after recent rainfall. Striated Grasswren also present.

Painted Snipe Macquarie Marshes, New South Wales
A grand total of 57 Painted Snipe observed on private property 'The Mole', Willi, located on the western side of the Macquarie Marshes The photo was taken by Richard Jenkins and shows about 30 of the 57, this was the largest of three groups. (Moderator's Note: I know of no previous example of that many Painted Snipe seen in the one place. HANZAB says they occur in pairs or small parties, with no figures given for larger groupings. Eurasian Hoopoe Roebuck Roadhouse , Western Australia
Eurasian Hoopoe was still showing well on Sunday afternoon when I left the Roebuck Roadhouse at about 1415. It seems to spend a lot of time roosting up in the shade. The best way to find it is to just park in the bay at the corner (closest to the Port Hedland road) and wait for it to come into one of the trees or the watered grass area.

Sat 12 Nov Spotted Whistling-Duck Low Lake, Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park , Queensland
7 birds sitting quietly on water, maybe 1st report from Lakefield? Moderator Note: There has been at least one record from Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park previously.
