Sun 25 Sep Australian Painted Snipe Kellys Swamp, Jerrabomberra Wetlands, ACT
The two Australian Painted Snipe were still at Kellys Swamp at 14:00 h today, although they were not seen by me or several other people for the hour and a half prior to that. They were again in the green grass tussocks about 2m to the right (north) of the right end of the fallen log at the far SW corner of Kellys.

Sat 24 Sep Australian Painted Snipe Kellys Swamp, Jerrabomberra Wetlands, ACT
Two Australian Painted Snipe found at southern end of Kellys Swamp at 15:20 h on a bleak overcast afternoon. Canberra birders alerted and an hour later there were 18 people watching the birds. Initially thought to be an adult female/adult male pair, but now I think the smaller of the two birds is an immature female based on plumage pattern of the closed wing. On-line discussion of this issue is continuing...

Yesterday lunchtime (13:30 ish) a Lewin's Rail was creeping around under the bushes between the Cygnus and Bittern Hides. Also a male Black Falcon plummeted out of the sky and tried to grab a coot! It made a couple more passes but the birds on the water were able to duck under and avoid capture.

One Sharp-tailed Sandpiper on the expansive mud flats of pond 5. This is probably the same bird that was at Kellys Swamp on Wednesday (missing today) and is the first wader I have seen at FSP.
