Birdline Tasmania

Published sightings for the week ending 7 Aug 2011.

Sun 7 Aug Little Corella Between Sisters Creek and Montumana
Two Little Corellas seen flying over the highway. Not often seen this far west?
John Tongue

Wed 3 Aug Australasian Shoveler, Hardhead, Grey Teal Clear Lagoon, Sandford
Single flock of approx. 60 Australasian Shoveler, 30 Hardhead and 20 Grey Teal. Possibly recent arrivals--no other duck species in the flock, very 'flighty'. 3 Hardhead present (in sea) at nearby Lauderdale Spit.
Alan Fletcher

Mon 1 Aug Wedgetailed Eagle Tasmania
Male Wedgie, sitting on ground just inside a fenced paddock on a busy roadside (Claude Road, NW). No visible carrion or other food, I drove back 10 minutes later and he was still there. Thought he must have been injured so got out car to check, he took off immediately & to my horror flew straight between the overhead powerlines, but emerged unscathed. His mate was sitting in a tree 200 metres away and they both flew away being mobbed by plovers & magpies
Jim Rouse

Sun 31 Jul Swift Parrot Taroona
One flying overhead. Also heard Pallid cuckoo
Simon Grove

Peregrine falcon Montrose Bay, Hobart
On a brooker highway street lamp outside the Derwent entertainment Centre.
Lachie Clark
