Dear Birders,
Birds Australia is holding a free seminar in the Riverside Room, Crossing
Theatre in Narrabri, NSW, on 4 August 2011 between 2:00 and 5:00. The aim of
the seminar is to introduce the Important Bird Area (IBA) Program in rural NSW.
There are a number of IBAs in the Narrabri area. A lot is being done bird-wise
in these areas but a lot more could be done in monitoring bird populations in
these areas. It is also important that people and groups who are doing work in
these areas participate in the reporting phase of the IBA program so that we
can get a reasonably complete picture as to what is happening to the key birds
and the threats to them as time progresses.
The IBA program can provide very valuable data over the years as to how these
important ecological areas are doing. it is for this reason that we would like
to make the community more aware of the IBA program and encourage
participation. the seminar will introduce the IBA program from a global as well
as a local perspective. Speakers will talk about the IBAs in the area and what
is currently being done to monitor their bird populations. They will cover how
this activity can be extended and how groups already monitoring can be involved
in the reporting process.
On the morning of Saturday 6 August we will be holding a workshop on how to set
up a monitoring program in an IBA for any interested birders in the Narrabri
region. Details of the workshop will be available at the seminar.
The Birds Australia IBA working Group urges all interested birders in the
Narrabri region to attend what will be an interesting and informative seminar
and woorkshop
