Hi everyone

In 1999, whilst on a non-birding Outback Track Tours trip to the Kimberleys,
4 of us (Graham "Steve" & Helen Stephinson, Allan Ible and I) headed down
Bachsten Creek (9 bone-jarring hours inland from Mt Elizabeth Station on the
Gibb River Road) in the hope of finding Black Grasswren. Helen stayed close
to the creek whilst Steve, Allan & I clambered uphill over and around rocks
and spinifex. After a couple of fruitless hours, but with good views of the
Chestnut-quilled Rock Pigeon, we descended to the creek bed again to be
asked by Helen " did you see it?". She had, not long before, seen the
grasswren hopping onto a large boulder adjacent to the creek. Thankfully,
we were able to track it down within 10 minutes or so.

Cheers,

Jenny Madeline

How often have we heard the story about the person who stayed in camp for a

cuppa, read a book, smoke, etc. who had the elusive bird stroll past them,

while the others were bush-bashing to find it??

Regards

Shirley
