G'day Nikolas and thanks Rob for getting the photos out so quickly,

I don't think this bird is as naturally dark in the underwing coverts as the
Ulladulla bird. I think this bird looks more normal but with the pale
fringes of the greater underwing coverts and elsewhere worn away, a number
of coverts are also missing. The Ulladulla bird from last year is still the
odd one out.

Wow - great! Interestingly your bird (at least on the single photo on
eremaea) - and here I disagree with you, Martin - has an underwing pattern
more similar to the Ulladulla bird than to the Port Stephens and Wollongong
birds last year. Would be interesting to see more photos of your bird!

Here some photos of the Wollongong bird (first three), then the Ulladulla
bird and then one at Hauraki Gulf NZ (last seven pictures) for comparison:

Have a look at this photo - I've only had 2 mins to downlaod photos so far
as i was dragged out by my wide for beers at a nrighbour when i walk in the
door! Ahhhh!. I will circulate the best ones soon!
