Subject: | Great Crested Grebe on Victorian Surf Beach |

I received a report and photographs of an immature Great Crested Grebe, sitting on the sand in front of the sand dunes, on Urquharts Bluff surf beach between Anglesea and Aireys Inlet, Victoria. The observation was by Pam Kabel and members of the Waverley Bushwalking Club, on 15 May 2011. Michael Morcombe in his field guide re Great Crested Grebe states ' it never emerges onto land'. I would be interested to hear of any other reports of Great Crested Grebes observed on land, and even more interested to hear of any on surf beaches.
