Great Shearwater, South Polar Skua, White-tailed Tropicbird, (possible) Soft-plumaged Petrel
Sydney Pelagic , New South Wales
This is just a brief note to record that a Great Shearwater was seen from
the Halicat during today's Sydney pelagic trip. The bird appeared at 12.45pm
about 28NM ESE of Sydney Heads (S33deg 59.978' E151deg 44.904') and settled
close the boat feeding on our berley at distances down to about 2 metres -
it remained close to the boat for more than 30 minutes.
Other notable sightings were a South Polar Skua, White-tailed Tropicbird and
a possible Soft-plumaged Petrel (awaiting examination of photographs).
Frustrating distant views of what were thought to be White-headed Petrel and
Buller's Shearwater all added to a remarkable day on the water.

Bird Island Track, Norfolk Island
One party of four birds seen and photographed at corner of Bridle and Bird Island tracks and then at least another two birds heard and one seen close to car park (6).

Great Shearwater
Portland Pelagic, Victoria
A number of Great Shearwaters were seen off Portland on Sunday 3rd April on
the monthly BOCA pelagic. A full report will be coming out soon but I
thought it worth alerting the birding community. Possibly 8 individuals were
seen and up to 6 at one time. They approached and settled when burlying.
The first bird was seen a few km south of Lawrence Rocks and the main group
out at the continental shelf edge. Anecdotal evidence from the skipper is
that similar birds have been seen recently just off Lawrence Rocks. (Also seen Gould's Petrel and 5 species of Albatross including Buller's and Wandering. TDolby)

Great Shearwater (8), Gould's Petrel (2), Southern Skua (1).
At sea SW of Portland, Victoria
On BA VicGroup pelagic, up to 8 Great Shearwaters (six together at shelf break and two about 9 NMi SW of Lawrence Rocks), two Gould's Petrels (one in primary moult) at shelf break. A Southern (Brown) Skua inshore - probably first for year in the district.

50+ Great Shearwaters, 1 Sooty Albatross, 2 Gould's Petrels. 4-5 Long-tailed Jaegers, 1 Black-bellied Storm Petrel.
