Hi John,

Looking at the Birdline Victoria records for the last few years for Koel
shows:

2004: 2 records
2005: 3 records
2006: 6 records
2007: 22 records
2008: 18 records
2009: 24 records
2010: 34 records

I remember when Ruth and I were planning our Victorian Big Year last year,
we had no concerns about finding Koels in Victoria - and as it happens, we
encountered them many times - mostly from Melbourne through the east of the
state.

HI friends,

In the last three or four years koels have gone from being rare breeding
visitors in Canberra (one or two birds every summer) to being fairly common.
We have had five to six birds called in our nieghbourhood in Fraser in
Northwest Canberra. Can anyone tell me if there has been a similar increase
anywhere in Victoria?

Thanks,

Dr John Penhallurick
