Hi Jill, Martin and all, it was the late 1980s early 1990s that Chris Corben
put me onto 3 birds at Wynnum and suggested that I should get some photos which
I did (slides). I remember it well as I cursed Chris as I crawled out across
the mudflats in 35+ degree January heat with high humidity and heaps of mossies
with an 800mm lens on a tripod!! I could see the difference straight away on
the ground, a good deal smaller with much shorter legs than our macrotarsa.
Over in Broome in 2001 the two races seemed to be in equal numbers. In more
recent times I had one on the city reach of the Brisbane River with a couple of
local Gull-billeds which hung around for a couple of days in the Spring of
2009. Cheers - Paul.
