Birdline Western Australia

Published sightings for the week ending 13 Mar 2011.

Thu 24 Feb Indian Cuckoo is Oriental Cuckoo West Island, Cocos-Keeling Islands
Retraction: My apologys to everyone but on further studies of my photos I believe that my Indian Cuckoo is an Oriental based on the undertail coverts showing the bands close together not wide apart in photos that I have seen of Indian Geoff Jones

Large Hawk Cuckoo, Yellow Bittern, Watercock, Japanese Sparrowhawk West Island, Cocos-Keeling Islands
A Large Hawk Cuckoo was seen on the 25th on Home Island as well as Yellow Bittern, Watercock, Eurasian Teal and Japanese Sparrowhawk. A probable Chinese Pond Heron was also observed. An Oriental Cuckoo was seen and photographed at the rear of Casterway Resort in large Banyan Tree feeding on catapillars on the 23rd and 24th of Feb. Many thanks to Richard Baxter and Rohan Clarke and crew for providing us with critical information.
