Have just returned from a recent trip to Jindabyne (for a wedding) and a few
days in Canberra (family time). Had a couple of trips to Ko
A few interesting sightings:
Flame Robins - common on the Alpine Way (including Leather Barrel Creek) and
also around Thredbo
Bassian Thrush - Pair at the start of the Bridle Track, Thredbo
Pilotbird (target subspecies number 1) - Creekline on Meadows Trail Thredbo
(finally) (the only Crescent HE of the trip was also seen here)
Olive Whistler (target subspecies number 2) - About 200m from above sightings
closer to Thredbo - feeding in the open in low shrubs in woodland (the best
views I have ever had of this species)
Scarlet Robin (and Rainbow Bee-eater) - woodland just below Eucumbene Dam
White-throated Needletail - Flock of 150+ circling near Guthrie's Creek which
is between Perisher Valley (1640m) and Charlottes Pass (1760m) in KNP on 6/3.
This seems high (as detailed in HANZAB) but there are a few records in the
Atlas of NSW Wildlife for the high country (will get more details on Monday
when back at work - need to sort out a few reptiles at CP as well). Any
thoughts on this record (Mike T?) would be appreciated.
Other than that, the usual suspects I picked up last year before Christmas.
