Hi,
So exciting, we have just been sitting in our loungeroom listening to
the repeated and very close calls of a Sooty Owl. We scrambled for the
bird calls to verify that we weren't imagining it, and the ipod played
the same call to us. Finally I went outside to try to locate it, only to
find it was sitting in a tree over the driveway, and I disturbed it
...........and lost it. I looked up but didn't see it, though I heard
the heavy flapping as it took off. And no more calls since.
We have lived in Beerwah since early 1996, and have never heard or seen
a Sooty Owl here at home. The habitat isn't especially wet here. We are
at the base of one of the Glasshouse Mountains, and that surely plays
some part in explaining its presence. And it is a very wet year.
Wow, wow, wow!
