My brother (who jokes about my bird interest) refers to tea towels as
teat owls and ask why would a bird have teats.

How about "Thomas & Thomas et al", pronounced "tea towel"?

Hi everyone

I received some very good news from Alan McBride, one of the authors
of the revised edition of "The Complete Guide to Finding the Birds of
Australia" (originally by Richard and Sarah Thomas). It is due for
release on March 1. Find out more at CSIRO Publishing:
http://www.publish.csiro.au/nid/21/pid/6411.htm
.

More info from Alan:

"Known affectionately by the authors as Tim Tam (from TTAM - the
authors, Thomas, Thomas, Andrew & McBride) that other much loved
Aussie treat, they have managed to visit practically every site over
the last five years, checked out the ones they were unable to get to
or found a few new ones. A surprisingly large number of sites are
still extant and this surprised both Australian based authors as well
as Richard & Sarah. We ask readers to please note where sites have
been changed and the need for asking permission now exists such as Mt
Lyndhurst or is completely off limits such as Pyampa Station.

"We also mention that the book is a guide to finding birds and NOT A
SITE GUIDE and is designed for visitors and locals to get to the
better spots to see particular birds. There are a number of excellent
site guides around for the various regions of Australia and having
used them in renewing this effort we recommend them all unreservedly;
not to mention some excellent web sites such as Frank O'Connor, Peter
Waanders and others. Apart from finding the birds the book now
contains a remarkable selection of bird photos and we thank the
photographers involved particularly for these and of course CSIRO for
publishing it and saving us having a full garage!

"We hope the phrase, whose got the TIM TAM will turn up more and more
in years to come but none of us mind if it's still called Thomas &
Thomas or T &* T".

So far no news of an iPhone app :-(
