Hi All.

          We will be in Dubai-Abu Dhabi for a few days in May, Does anyone know
of any birding sites within an hour or so by car, or in the city limits
themselves?

I did some birding around Dubai while on work trips in the late 1990s. This is a long time ago, given the rate of development around Dubai. Might be worth searching for current information on

    * Saffa Park on the southern side of town
    * The inland end of Dubai Creek (Khor Dubai) has flamingos and
      other waders
    * Mushrif National Park - around 10 km past the airport
    * Jebel Ali hotel grounds

I also had a look through the mangroves along Khor Kalba, near Fujeira on the Gulf of Oman side of the UAE. Came within a whisker of bogging my hire car to the axles in mangrove mud while distracted by movement in the bushes ;-(

I used The Birds of the United Arab Emirates, by Colin Richardson, published in 1990 (so quite dated).

The site http://www.uaebirding.com/birdingsites.html looks interesting
