Dear All,

I am finding the discussion on whether Christmas Island is part of Asia interesting. Putting Christmas Is in Asia makes about as much sense as placing Mauritius or the Maldives in Africa and the Galapagos Is in South America. Christmas island rests on the Indo-Australian plate and Asia is on the Indo-Chinese plate. Christmas Island is moving North, as is Australia, but it will not join Asia. It will be sub-ducted under the Indo-Chinese plate, disappearing for ever ( though some of it may be ejected from Indonesian volcano some time later). These events will probably not happen in our lifetimes, but it would be very interesting to see happening.

As for what is a Continent, well I will remain continent.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford
