Hi Sandra,

Sounds like the effects of hypothermia, brought about by the birds getting thoroughly soaked. It probably been exacerbated by lack of food, as I imagine life has been hard for ground feeders in that area for a while, due to the extended wet conditions.

Hi all,

My daughter lives at Lowood in the Lockyer Valley. Today she had over 370mm of rain and her property is totally isolated but not flooded. She reported that the birds at her place are falling out of the trees dead, the birds she mentioned were Crested Pigeons, Noisy Miners and Magpies. Is this a common
phenomenon in periods of torrential rain? I also live in South East
Queensland and have experienced many instances of torrential rain (although
not quite as heavy as today's) but have not seen birds die in any large
numbers.

Look forward to your comments.

Cheers,

Sandra Gallienne
