Exotic bird poses disease risk in North West
Posted 1 hour 18 minutes ago

Quarantine officials have been forced to destroy several birds in the state's North West because of fears of an avian flu outbreak. The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service has released a statement saying the non-native bird was discovered at a North West property last week. The Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry says the disease risk associated with the bird was very serious and could potentially have included avian influenza and Newcastle disease. The department will not say what type of bird was found or how many others had to be destroyed. It has also declined to reveal the North West town where the bird was found.
