Fri 5 Nov Gouldian Finch [100+] Copperfield Dam,nr Pinecreek, Northern Territory
First seen next to road then dispersed into lightly wooded areas away from road[road into copperfield dam about 500 mtrs before 2nd set of overhead powerlines] 100+ birds, mainly black -faced, some red faced, some juvs. Great to see such a large number together as didn,t expect to see any on this trip.Obviously the place to see these delightful finches at the moment.

Yellow-rumped Mannikin seen during day with about 20 Chestnut-breasted Mannikins along road to Harrison Dam on rightside of road.very different bird to his companions[.identical to simpson/day illustration]. King Quail n same area that evening frozen in car headlights whilst spotlighting.Almost touched the bird before it flew to safety. Same thing happened with a Chestnut-breasted Mannikin that was also on bitumen road ,frozen by lights, it to flew as nearly touched it[amazing]No fewer than 11 Barn Owls,2 Grass Owls,2 Barking Owls,1 Tawny Frogmouth,2 Bush Stone Curlew,1 Nankeen Night-Heron,1 Croc [1.5 mtr on dam] all seen between Arnham H/wy and Harrison dam and Fogg dam roads.
