Hi,
We are still awaiting receipt of photos but if this is a Red-billed Tropicbird,
as appears to be the case, it has been present for some time. There is more
information on its behaviour on the updated page at
http://birdo.wildiaries.com/trips/10347. It looks like it is likely to stick
around.
CHARTER FLIGHT
A charter flight is available this weekend but arrangements will have to be
made very quickly. Please contact me asap if you would like a space (pending
confirmation of the bird's identification).
Regards,
Simon.

> Subject: [Birding-Aus] Red-billed Tropicbird on Lord Howe Island
>
> A Red-billed Tropicbird was apparently present Monday (maybe later) on Lord
> Howe Island. This report came via Tony Palliser, who was contacted by a
> visitor to the island. Tony has tentatively confirmed the identity of this
> bird. Once confirmed, this will make it a first for Australia!

> NOTE, WE EXPECT TO HAVE MORE DETAILS IMMINENTLY.

> There are no other details at present. Once details are available, they will

> We have arranged a charter aircraft available for 6 passengers for a one-day
> return trip departing Sydney, if the bird is found to still be present.
>
> Immediately email if you would like a space.
>
> The price will be approximately $1,600 return leaving Sydney airport in the
> morning and returning in the afternoon (which morning will depend on what
> news we find out about the bird). Compare this to the cost of a return flight
> to Lord Howe plus overnight accommodation, approx $1,200 flight + at least
> $250 per person for accommodation, though this may not be available (Lord
> Howe accommodation is limited because it is a World Heritage Area) plus not
> inexpensive food.
