A few years ago I had a flock of 300+ Great Crested Grebe seen from the bird
hide at the mouth of the Little River at the Western Treatment Plant. Most
were asleep and bobbing up and down in the swell.

I am 8 years old. On my first bird-watching trip to North Queensland my dad
and I saw 118 Great Crested Grebes in a single flock at Lake Barine on the
Atherton Tablelands. This was on the 29th September 2010. Some were diving
down to catch fish and coming up with fish in their beaks. There was a
mixture of adults and immature grebes.

We were amazed to see so many together! Is this unusual?
