Hi Elizabeth, as shortly I'm going away for a 10 days you might like to send
your pic to Danny Rogers, copied in above, who will be excited if your bird
is a Painted Snipe. I must say though that the behaviour sounds just like a
Common Sandpiper as suggested by Trevor.
