Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) (1) quietly foraging in grass along 
edge of dam

Black-chinned Honeyeater (Melithreptus gularis) (2) First heard, then seen, in 
the trees near the carpark.

Short-tailed Grasswren (Amytornis merrotsyi) (1) 1 providing prolonged views

Elegant Parrot (Neophema elegans) (2) Pair at nest, showing well

Location: Flinders Ranges, Hawker (approx. 30kms along the highway towards 
Parachilna)

Rufous Fieldwren (Calamanthus campestris) (2) A pair in the small shrubs on the 
side of the road, the male popped up beside myself and Michael Warnes and sang 
it's little heart out!! A nice way to start our trip up to the Strezlecki Track 
where we found two more pairs of these great little birds!!

Chirruping Wedgebill (Psophodes cristatus) (6) The original reason we pulled 
over to have a look at this flock calling away in a roadside bush.

Little Button-quail (Turnix velox) (1) Flushed from small shrubs near where the 
Fieldwrens were.

There were a few Zebra Finches here also.

Location: Mt Lyndhurst Stn

Inland Dotterel (Peltohyas australis) (1) bird at nest with 3 eggs

Australian Pratincole (Stiltia isabella) (1) a pair with a nest

Thick-billed Grasswren (Amytornis textilis) (4) two pairs (presumably), in 
separate locations, both showing well and singing. Rufous Fieldwren also seen.

Chestnut-breasted Whiteface (Aphelocephala pectoralis) (3) seen at close range

Gibberbird (Ashbyia lovensis) (2) a pair further along the Strzelecki track. 
Both other chats (crimson & orange) also seen.

Cinnamon Quail-thrush (Cinclosoma cinnamomeum) (5) mum, dad and 3 young. 
Chirruping Wedgebill also seen.

Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) (10s) small flocks buzzing around and 
birds breeding in hollows in trees along creeks. Cockatiels also present.

Little Woodswallow (Artamus minor) (30) Little Woodswallow were common at 
Wilkawillina Gorge in the central Flinders Ranges - rare this far south.

Location: Chappel Road Hindmarsh Island

Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) (8) With small group of Silver Gulls and 
four Common Greenshank on island in midstream. On a second island there was a 
flock of about 200 small waders; too far off to identify.

Location: Goolwa Barrage

Great Egret (Ardea alba) (8) Fresh water is being released through the section 
of the Barrage closest to the Goolwa shore. Just downstream a group of 8 Great 
Egret, together with 2 Little Egret, were feeding from the rock embankment. 
Thirty Little Black Cormorant, 6 Great Cormorant, 2 Pied Cormorant and about 20 
Crested Tern were also feeding close to the shore.

Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) (80) The most numerous bird species on fresh water 
side of Barrage. Many groups of cygnets, and at least 6 birds sitting on nests 
in reeds between the Sanctuary and Jet Ski Hire.

Shining Bronze-Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx lucidus) (1) A single bird, calling from 
Manna gums about 3km out of Balhannah.Also present the following day.

Location: Onkaparinga River Recreation Park

Blue-billed Duck (Oxyura australis) (1) A single bird (male) observed on the 
main lake in the wetlands.

Location: Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park

Red-capped Robin (Petroica goodenovii) (3) My first sighting of this species in 
this area. Initially observed male and female trying to lure me away from the 
immediate area with wing-waving, followed shortly after by the appearance of a 
juvenile bird.

White-winged Triller (Lalage tricolor) (1) A single bird being constantly 
harassed by the resident White-plumed Honeyeaters in the area. First sighting 
of this species for the season.
